Activities

Boat trips-
Lake Bunyonyi is the most interesting lakes to explore, being of volcanic origin, the deepest in Uganda and having many islands. Jajama offers a variety of tours of the lake in a motor-boat, including a day trip to meet the Batwa pygmies, a hunter-gatherer tribe. For shorter trips, we also have traditional dug-out canoes for hire either for paddling oneself or with a guide.

Swimming
is available from Jajama's shores and we have a jetty for sun worshippers. Lake Bunyonyi is unpolluted and bilharzia-free.
See below for for pictures.

Hill climbing
directly above Jajama is both good exercise and very rewarding in terms of the wonderful views. You can also expect a warm welcome from local people who live in these high places.

Bird Watching
Lake Bunyonyi -meaning "place of small birds" in the local Rukiga language- is a bird watchers paradise.

Canoing Lake Bunyonyi

The shore at Jajama and nearby has extensive papyrus and reed marshes where a variety of birds including crested cranes, pelicans and kingfishers and other wildlife including otter, can be seen. Close to the shore, visitors are welcome to pitch their own tents and we have some double tents for hire.

For prices of motor-boat trips and canoing, see boat tariff
